Homework

According to the Butler School handbook, students in grade 5 should be spending roughly 1 hour on homework per night. If your child is spending significantly more or less than that, please let us know. If your child does not understand their homework, please write a note on the page so that we can help explain that particular skill. We ask that students try to solve the problems, or at least complete the other problems on the page that they do understand. Incomplete homework will result in a homework check. Students are also given occasional homework "challenges." These are optional, but students who choose to complete them will be given an extra Butler Buck.

Please note that all homework should be done in blue or black ink, except math which should be done in pencil.

In addition to the nightly homework, students should be working on their weekly reading contracts and their required literature circle work. Although they get time in class to work on these throughout the week, they need to pace themselves to make sure the contracts are done by Friday and Literature Circles are done each night.
