Classroom Rules

Home

All three fifth grade classrooms use the same behavior management system. Our system is based on three simple rules - Respect, Responsibility, and Readiness. When students follow the classroom expectations, they are rewarded with Butler Bucks. Students collect Butler Bucks throughout the month and use them at the end of the month to "buy" a ticket to Fun Friday. Students with extra Butler Bucks can buy additional prizes. Students can also lose Butler Bucks when they are not responsible, respectful, or ready.

Rewards

Students who follow all the rules, and are prepared with homework, etc. will be paid $1 a day. Students will be “paid” at the beginning of each month. Students will be “billed” for any money they owe weekly. Tickets to our monthly Fun Friday cost $15 Butler Bucks. Anyone who can buy a ticket at the end of the month can participate. Those students who cannot participate will spend Fun Friday in detention doing class work. Any student with extra money can also shop in our classroom store. A teacher may give out Butler Bucks at any time for good behavior, or as a bonus for exceptional classroom work.

Consequences

If a student chooses to break a classroom rule (for example,

coming to class without a pen or pencil, talking without permission, not cleaning your area at the end of the day) they will receive a behavior check. A student who has missing or incomplete homework will receive a homework check.

Homework check = $3 fine and student must complete the missing or incomplete work. If a student has missing homework on a regular basis, parents must come in for a meeting with teachers and the principal.

One check = Lose 1 Butler Buck

Two checks = Lose 2 Butler Bucks

Three checks = Lose 3 Butler Bucks plus a parent phone call

Four checks = Lose 5 Butler Bucks plus a parent phone call and office referral.
