Read below to find out a little more about Mrs. Shaw and Ms. Meek (special educator).

Mrs. Shaw

My name is Sarah Shaw and this is my eighth year teaching 5th grade at the Butler. I am originally from Tucson, AZ where I taught 3rd grade for two years before moving to MA. I love being part of such a supporting and encouraging staff and community in Avon.

I graduated with a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Arizona in 2000. After moving to Massachusetts in 2002, I completed my Masters Degree in elementary education with a focus on literacy, and also received my special education certification at Lesley University.

My husband, Dan, and I have two daughters named Addison (3) and Tatum (4 months). We also have a very spoiled Beagle named Hallie.

In my spare time (of which there is none!) I enjoy reading, going to the movies, and shopping!

I have high expectations for all my students and I emphasize "personal best" in the classroom. My goal is to create a safe, engaging learning environment for all students to work to their highest potential. I try to instill the values of respect and responsibility in all my students and encourage them to be life long learners.

Ms. Meek

My name is Jennifer Meek and this is my sixth year teaching at Butler. I am originally from Simsbury, CT but have lived in and around the Boston area for the past 8 years.

I graduated from Boston College in 2005 with a bachelor's degree in elementary education. I then stayed at Boston College for an additional year to complete my Master's Degree in special education. I am currently certified in both elementary education and special education.

Before arriving at Butler, I worked in Newton as a special education assistant while
finishing my degree. I also spent many summers working as a camp counselor and a soccer coach.

I have several hobbies that I enjoy in my spare time. I love to read; memoirs are my
favorite. I also love photography and attempting to capture interesting places and
events.  I try to spend as much time possible enjoying the great outdoors. I love to play
soccer, hike, run, bike, and compete in road races and triathlons.

I believe that each student brings unique strengths to the classroom community. It is our
role to continue to foster these individual strengths while further developing the student's areas of need. I believe all students can learn at a high level and therefore
have high expectations for all learners.  I want my students to realize that learning is
a process, and feel comfortable and safe to take the risks that are required in order to
make gains.
